CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

The Man Who Loved Me

A fresh layer of snow fell the night before, and the light that bent around the curtain scorched Mory’s face this morning. “That’s it. I’m buying you new curtains for this damn place.”

Naked against her back, Haldir kept her locked up tight in his arms all night. A soft whimper came from his nose as he rubbed his nostrils into the mound of hair bunched against his face. “Don’t bother; we’re not staying.”

A car passed by and sent a light beam into her eyelid that made her roll away until she was facing him. “Where are we going?”

Spread out over the back of her head, his palm urged her into his neck, and he combed his fingers through her hair as he tried to catch a few more minutes of sleep. “New Orleans.”

Like a blanket, his knee crossed over her body to cover her as she pulled on his thigh. “I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, but New Orleans is not an exotic, sunny beach.”

A deep chuckle vibrated through his throat and tickled her lips. “Yes, I realize that. But we have an old friend we need to visit before we move along.”

The bed shifted under them as he turned to his back when Mory slid her hand down his chest in search of his dick as she nipped at his skin. “Who’s that?”

With a growl, he shoved her backward to the blankets, and while his hand grabbed her breast, his open mouth devoured her nipple until one eyebrow rose to answer her. “The man that’s going to marry us.”

Like a claw, her fingers gripped the back of his head and tugged until he looked at her. “What did you say?”

With his finger, he hooked the side of her panties and worked them down her hips as he came to his knees. “I said we’re getting married tonight.”

Even with her eyes shut tight, Haldir’s gaze bore through her as his toes dug into the mattress when he filled her.

Too wrapped up in her own blissful world to respond to his body’s cries for more of her, Haldir gripped her ass cheek in his palm and yanked her to him with each thrust to go deeper. And when the pillows rubbed at his elbows, he ripped them from under her and tossed them to the floor.

Anger for the life he’d never share with her heated his blood, and as he lifted himself from her chest, he yanked at her legs until they swallowed him.

The shiver started in her knees as she used his hair between her fingers to brace herself, and when he collapsed on top of her, his fire was gone. “Tell me you love me just once; I don’t care if you mean it. It’s all I have of you forever.”

A heavy breath covered his face, and she gripped his chin until he looked at her. “Are you kidding?” She cradled his cheeks in her fingertips and pressed her forehead to his. “In these last couple of days, you’ve shown me more love than anyone ever has in my life.
